Hall 3 at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre Played host toThe Birmingham Pride Ball and Zone Readers Awards last Friday (15th March), attended by more than 1000 guests and a star-studded line-up of performers including The Mend, The Sugar Dandies, X-Factors Lucy Spraggan, and Kajagoogoo’s Limahl.
Slinky were brought in with just a week to go before the event, and after some swift pre-production, were there in force on the night, relaying all the action live to two giant screens, either side of the stage.
Mission control for Slinky was an ATC Portable Production Unit and Engineering rack (a mini TV gallery on wheels) and Sony DXC50 cameras with J40 lenses on the back balcony, and four other cameras positioned round the venue, and miles of cable! The live vision mix output was then fed to the AV control and mixed with the graphics for the show.
n addition to the live show relay, Slinky was given the task of getting the awards section of the show on-line by the next day. This involved some dedicated Slinky staff, taking the live footage, with graphic stings and editing 36 separate award sections overnight for delivery the next day.
Martin Monahan, the Editor-in-Chief of Midlands Zone magazine and organiser of the annual Birmingham Pride Ball, has announced that last Friday’s Ball will be the last, after an incredible twelve years of raising over £100,000 for HIV/AIDS and local LGBT charities.
